The term "hygge", which is pronounced "hyoo-guh" refers to a way of life in Denmark. It denotes atmosphere of comfort, conviviality and well-being. It is often associated with warm, cozy, and intimate moments, whether alone or in company.
Interview with Jonas
Jonas, a typical danish man, explains to us his version of Hygge.
Hartford : Can you tell us who you are and what Hygge means to you ?
Jonas : My name is Jonas, I’m 31 years old and from Danemark.
In Denmark, we have this concept call Hygge, which we can translate into something like coziness.
It includes spending time with family, friends, usually in the winter season. For example going in a cabin in the countryside, playing games, drinking or eating good food…
And I think, it catches the essence of being danish. Denmark is a calm and quiet country, very easy going, and in general a very secure quiet life.
